Dr. Rita Z. Nazeer-Ikeda is a social scientist focusing on international human development work. She specializes in education and international development, particularly in comparative teacher education policies and the sociology of education. She has dedicated more than two decades to capacity building, research, consultancy, and volunteer work in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Dr. Nazeer-Ikeda started her career as an educator in Singapore, where she earned her B.A. (Hons) with a Diploma in Education from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. She then graduated as Valedictorian when she topped the Dean’s List at the Graduate School of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University (Tokyo). There, she earned an M.A. in International Relations. Dr. Rita was then conferred a Ph.D. in International Studies by Waseda University (Tokyo) under full scholarship from Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science & Technology (MEXT).
Dr. Nazeer-Ikeda’s latest book, titled “Internationalization of teacher education and the nation state: Rethinking nationalization in Singapore” (Routledge; The HEAD Foundation), discusses teacher education and its sustained importance for societal development.
